Sergio Aguero met with an expletive rebuke after attempting to pacify Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez’s anger towards Argentina team-mate and long-time friend Lionel Messi.
The Mexican world champion boxer was left furious after believing Messi to wipe his feet on a Mexican jersey following his side’s 2-0 win on Saturday evening in World Cup Group C.
Manchester City record goalscorer Aguero and Messi were room-mates when on the road with Argentina for the majority of their careers, with Messi now staying on his own in the absence of his friend, who retired last year.
Aguero took to Twitter to defend Messi, writing: 'Mr. Canelo, don't look for excuses or problems, surely you don't know about football and what happens in a locker room.
'The shirts are always on the floor after games due to sweat, and then if you see well, he makes the movement to remove the boot and accidentally hits it.'
But the four-weight champion fighter responded was not to be deterred, firing back with: 'You too, b******? You used to write me, "oh, oh, Canelo", and now you're crying. Don't be a hypocrite, b******.'
Messi starred as his team condemned Mexico to a defeat, leaving them with just one point from two games in Group C, needing a win against Saudi Arabia and results to go their way to reach the second round.
The PSG forward managed a goal and an assist as he inspired his team after their own loss to the Green Falcons in their opening game.
And the victory - Argentina’s first of the tournament - sparked pandemonium in the dressing room as the South American side celebrated the three vital points.
With the Albiceleste team celebrating their victory in the dressing room, footage shows a Mexico shirt on the floor in front of the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner with his feet making slight contact with it.
Alvarez interpreted the movement as Messi disrespecting his country, saying: 'Did you guys see Messi cleaning the floor with our jersey and flag.
'He better pray to God that I don't find him. Just like I respect Argentina, he has to respect Mexico!
'I'm not talking about the country as a whole, just about the bulls**t that Messi did.'
