Fabio Cannavaro has thrown his hat into the debate as to who is football's best ever player.
The former Italian defender spoke to Marcelo on Instagram Live about his picks for the greatest player of all time.
"For me, [Diego] Maradona was the best of them all and Ronaldo Nazario was the only one that got close to Diego Maradona," Cannavaro said.
"I played against Ronaldo in 1997, he was a top player.
"There was already talk of him and he was impressive, my word, he would give a look."
Cannavaro then suggested that Marcelo pick between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
"It's a question that's there to screw over everyone who has played football," Marcelo replied.
"You can't say who is better. You can like one more than the other.
"Each person has their own ideas.
"I played with Cristiano for 10 years and he gives you motivation that no one ever gives me.
"We're talking about two phenomenons.
"Messi stops, shifts the ball and bursts past you in seconds.
"But you can't go along asking everyone who is better."

Messi definately is in maradona shadows and that's how it will remain.. Argentina can never win a team with such a player that lacks leadership qualities...no wonder he is scared to leave a club that will do trial and error on every players even if that cost them over 3.5 billion just to find players that suit Messi.. no other club will do that ...

Any goat who cannot win a trophy with a country like Argentina with superstars cannot be better than Maradona. Messi is not better than Maradona in Argentina so whilst he's the greatest in Barcelona, he is certainly not greater than Maradona. Anyone trying to introduce Balon d'Or in the debate does not really understand football because the two people played in different generations. There was nothing like Balon D'or and all the important institutional structures that support modern football. Messi and Ronaldo would be considered great players if they played in the 80s and early 90s but certainly not goats. I watched Maradona play and I will say that he is like Ronaldinho and Messi combined but his most profound quality was his leadership and charisma. No player compares to him.
