Liverpool could say goodbye to Caoimhin Kelleher, regarded as the world's best back-up goalkeeper, this summer with Leeds among the Premier League clubs interested as Ireland manager urges his No1 to find regular playing time

Caoimhin Kelleher has been urged by his national team manager to leave Liverpool this summer, with Ireland’s Heimir Hallgrimsson saying: “He is too good not to be playing.”

Kelleher has continued to make a fine impression when called upon to deputise for Alisson Becker and is widely regarded as the best second choice stopper in the world right now.

But with a little more than 12 months remaining on his contract and Giorgi Mamardashvili set to arrive from Valencia this summer, it looks more likely than not that 26-year-old Kelleher will head to pastures new as first choice ahead of next season.

It has been previously reported that Liverpool want £40million for Kelleher and Leeds United are the latest club to be linked with a move after they sealed their return to the top flight.

Newcastle and Bournemouth are among the clubs to have been linked with him in recent months and Ireland chief Hallgrimsson said: "I just want Caoimhin to go to a club where he will play. He has been playing at the highest level," Hallgrimsson said.

"Champions League, Premier League, done really well. I just want him to be happy and play regularly. I don't mind where he goes so long as he is playing on a regular basis, he is too good not to be playing.''

Liverpool confirmed last summer that they were signing Georgia star Mamardashvili but he would spent this present campaign at Valencia before arriving on Merseyside. It is unclear whether the move was being made with Kelleher's future in mind or not.

Kelleher has made 20 starts in all competitions this season for the Reds, including 10 in the Premier League, but those have come with Alisson sidelined by injury.

And head coach Arne Slot has repeatedly said this season that the Brazilian will continue as his first choice.

Since Sunday's 2-2 draw with Arsenal at Anfield, during which departing Trent Alexander-Arnold was booed by thousands of fans, players and staff have been enjoying some down time - including Slot heading to Ibiza, where he was pictured partying with Wayne Lineker at his O Beach club.
