Carragher: Manchester United must sack Carrick tonight for his own good

Manchester United suffered a 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth in Matchweek 8 of the Premier League. Speaking on Sky Sports after the match, Jamie Carragher said United had to decide that very night to change managers—not just for the club’s sake, but for Michael Carrick’s as well.

Carragher said: “Manchester United have to change their manager tonight. They have to make that decision. The fans have already sided with Carrick. That is not because he is the team’s manager, but because he holds such an important place in Manchester United’s history. These players have achieved very little compared with the United teams of the past. So in this battle with Bruno Fernandes, Carrick will always have the upper hand, and rightly so, no matter how talented Bruno Fernandes is.”

“But at the same time, Manchester United are one of the biggest football clubs in the world, yet they are currently 16th in the Premier League. This cannot go on. United must relieve Carrick of his duties tonight, for his own sake as well as the club’s. It was hard to watch him walking around the pitch after the game. He is clearly suffering right now, and what is happening is good for neither Manchester United nor Carrick.”
