Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have certainly enjoyed an eventful week, but Carragher gives different rates on the two stars.
During an article on the Champions League this season, the Liverpool legend explained that a Messi vs Ronaldo final is a real possibility and branded the former as the greatest player in history.
"In reality, the competition is heading towards a showdown between emerging forces and familiar faces," Carragher wrote in his weekly Telegraph column.
"Ronaldo and Messi – the greatest goalscorer of all time and the greater player of all time – show no sign of giving up their dominance of European competition, their individual displays in midweek further demonstrating their exceptional skill and motivation levels.
"They bring belief to their clubs and fear to opposition. The fact remains unless the English clubs can find a way to stop Ronaldo and Messi, this year's final will be Juventus versus Barcelona."
Big praise for Ronaldo, but Carragher believes Messi is the real GOAT.
Nevertheless, despite believing both players could go all the way to Madrid, Carragher reckons that the Premier League sides will dominate if they can neutralize Messi and Ronaldo.
He went on to explain: "I believe the English can and will overcome Ronaldo and Messi this season.
"I believe two English clubs will make it to Madrid and the Premier League will continue to have at least two participants in the semi-finals for the next five years.
"Should Liverpool get past Porto, Barcelona would need to overcome two English clubs to reach the final if they defeat United. That is a tough ask for the Spanish champions.
"City should be too strong for Tottenham, Ajax and Juventus. Guardiola may not like references to the quadruple. They will not be going away."

Ronaldo is the greatest player in the world of football because he can score in pressure game which we have seen many times but messi can't do. messi scores only on easy game which is already won and score by others. Ronaldo has ability to play any tough league such as EPL, LALIGA & Now Serie A but messi plays in only laliga which is not so competitive league. Ronaldo is only one star player from Portugal and he won national trophy by indl performance but messi is in around other star players but he couldn't do it till that's why Ronaldo is greatest player than messi. Uncle Carragher you are just a confused human being what’s the difference between the greatest goalscorer of all time and the greater player of all time ? Messi is the highest goal scorer in the history of Barca and CR7 is still the highest goal scorer in the history of Real Madrid, as far am concern Messi and CR7 should not be compared for whatever reason because Messi will creat another magic today tomorrow CR7 will do another like the UCL against Atl Madrid they both have their different record which they break individually in their respective clubs is either you prefer Messi to CR7 or CR7 to Messi no one is better than the other .

Messi is a complete player. He can can do anything except goal keeping. That's why he is the G.O.A.T. Ronaldo is a great player with his goalscoring and off the ball movement and an excellent leader.

According to you, if Messi went to man u of Giggs and scholes that was already wining leagues he couldn't have won, or if he went to city last year as pple were saying that he could go to city couldn't have won the league and even reach champion league finals! Barca bought Messi from a team and he was the best there, he was best in his child teams, in fact he is best everywhere he goes my friend and that is y he wins best player in a competition even if never won the finals because his performance never drops but it a team it is unfortunate that their national team was not lucky enough to win the finals, but still he his individual performance in the competition stands out
