Carragher disappointed with Fernandes' exaggerated reaction to Foden's red card

On Monday night, Jamie Carragher reviewed the Manchester Derby incident where Foden was sent off on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football. The Liverpool legend stated that he was very disappointed with Bruno Fernandes because he personally strongly dislikes exaggerated diving.

In the Manchester Derby, Bruno Fernandes collided with Foden, who then retaliated by kicking the Manchester United captain after falling, ultimately receiving a direct red card from Oliver.

Carragher commented, "It happened very quickly, and the referee's view at the time wasn't ideal, so he pulled out the red card decisively and quickly. I think in this situation, VAR could have intervened to clarify the facts.

But what I want to say is, in my opinion, a yellow card to each side would have been a more appropriate way to handle it.

But I am really disappointed with Bruno Fernandes, truly disappointed. There are many elements in football that we like or dislike, and everyone has different opinions on them. And the one thing I personally strongly dislike and detest the most is when someone falls to the ground and exaggerates their injury.

I've said it before on this show, I don't completely dismiss all situations. For example, when a player isn't entirely faking a foul, but rather goes with the flow to gain an advantage in a referee's decision for the team, to win a penalty or a scoring opportunity. Or when an opposing defender makes a reckless tackle, I look at our own striker and think, 'Don't go out of your way to avoid it.' I'm certainly not endorsing diving, but you know, it's more or less part of the game's strategy.

But exaggerated acting like that, I really cannot accept at all. I know Manchester United fans watching the show at home right now might say: 'Oh, you're only saying that because he's a Manchester United player, because he's a foreign player.' But about five or six years ago on Monday Night Football, Harry Kane did the exact same thing for Tottenham against Everton—I think it was Doucouré who got a red card—and I said the exact same thing that night. I cannot accept this behavior; I absolutely do not condone it.

The overreaction Bruno made just now should not have been the response to that action at all; the opponent merely brushed him lightly with his foot."
