Manchester United lost 3-0 at home to Bournemouth. Speaking to the British media after the match, Michael Carrick discussed his side’s performance, the three goals they conceded and his decision to leave Bruno Fernandes on the bench.
On the match
Carrick said: “It was a tough day. The lads all wanted to play well, but they found it difficult today. There were some nerves, some anxiety and a bit of hesitation. That made it a very difficult game. Conceding twice before half-time put us in a difficult position, so the next goal was always going to be hugely important. I could feel that the fans wanted to get behind us. Even at half-time, I could hear the noise from the stands and sense their desire to drive us forward. I spoke to the players about that at the break as well.
If we had scored at that point, it would have changed the whole complexion of the game, but we couldn’t. The third goal we conceded effectively put the game beyond us. I have mixed emotions. You can see the lads trying to do the right things, and you can also feel the emotion in the stadium. Standing on the touchline, I really did have very mixed feelings.”
On the goals conceded
Carrick said: “When Heaven was penalised for that challenge, he only got the ball and didn’t catch anyone, but the referee still awarded them a free-kick. That said, we should have defended the free-kick better. Yoro slipped, and he’s very disappointed about it. He’s still learning and made a mistake today. It won’t affect him—he’s a top player. For the third goal, the wind affected the flight of the ball, and it was also a great finish.”
On the decision to leave Bruno Fernandes on the bench
Carrick said: “He’s fit and available to play, but we decided to go with today’s lineup. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the result we wanted, which is disappointing for everyone. We wanted to get forward and create more chances. There were areas where we could have done better, but overall, we clearly didn’t do enough.”

Carrick is going through devastating emotional trauma, including all the players. The toxic situation created by ex players who had won thousands of laurels will continue to keep Carrick and his team in a sorry state of stupor. Too many brutal comments by MU ex players are keeping both coaches and players in a state of psychological immobility. They can't function at all to the best of their abilities. These know-it-all ex players, management and recruitment team are guilty of the sad state of the team, not Carrick or the players. 💔💔😡😡😡

Manchester United had a hiden problem that need to be sorted out to help the club moving forward. The running staffs managerment need to be check out. Hold a crises meeting between the players, managers and the running staffs. Last week players echo some problem within the club. Something is wrong somewhere.

The internal crisis in Man. U. is already too glaring and something must be done early enough. It may end up as their worst season in decades.

It seems you people are yet to understand this game. There’s something wrong between this coach and his players. There’s something fishy about this game. Let be honest without. Man United can still do better than this bro. I feel sorry for this man because this is not how he started.

in support, Carrick should choose his 11...the team that promoted him to CL, not the signings. It is unbelievable to bench the playmaker, the captain of the team. I am ashamed of his decisions. No man.

I believe the players who joined during the summer have been more of a liability than an asset. Why doesn’t Carrick try fielding his established players and keep the new signings as alternatives? I have not yet seen them make a significant impact on the pitch. A decisive coach should not bench his captain in favour of underperforming players. At least he has seen the result. For now, Bruno remains Manchester United’s playmaker.

poor quality players... management brought in low quality players in the summer period, and, significantly failed to replace the midfield position of Casemiro, which is a need area Man. Utd FC is running short of... Management failed to instill Man. utd to competent levels... The whole board members of Man. Utd. FC, should honestly resign and allow election's take place...
