Chelsea attempted to bring Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos to Stamford Bridge this summer and were reportedly willing to offer up to £85 million.

The Brazilian centre back worked under Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel during the manager's time in Paris and he was keen to bring the player to the Premier League.

The West London club were reportedly looking to bring in a defender as they were also strongly linked with Sevilla's Jules Kounde.

However, according to RMC Sport, Tuchel wanted to reunite the Marquinhos and Thiago Silva defensive partnership.

Even though Chelsea were willing to pay £85 million for the player, both PSG and Marquinhos rejected Chelsea's approach.

The Brazilian defender wanted to remain in the french capital after seeing PSG's ambition in the transfer market after signing Lionel Messi, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Sergio Ramos, Achraf Hakimi and Georginio Wijnaldum.

From the club's perspective, Mauricio Pochettino views Marquinhos as a vital member of the starting eleven due to his consistently high level performances in recent seasons and therefore opted to keep the player.

Ultimately, Chelsea were unable to make any defensive reinforcements during the transfer window yet this hasn't seemed to impact their ability in keeping clean sheets.

Since the start of the season, they have only conceded one goal in five Premier League games.

Silva was one of Chelsea's standout performers during their victory over Tottenham on Sunday after scoring the opening goal and helping the team keep another clean sheet.

Chelsea are looking to continue their good start to the season this week as they are set to face Aston Villa in the Caraboa Cup and title rivals Manchester City in a Premier League clash on Saturday.
