Chelsea buyer Todd Boehly's wrestling past

Chelsea's likely new owner Todd Boehly was a wrestling star during his teenage years, school yearbook photos show.

Boehly attended the private Landon School in Maryland where he graduated in 1992.

"Todd expended as much energy on the sidelines in encouragement of his teammates as he did on the mat," said former teacher and mentor Steve Sorkin.

"How fitting it seems that so many of his classmates have traveled distances to attend the dedication, exemplifying the spirit of brotherhood that stands as Todd's hallmark."

Boehly was a member of the school's wrestling team, which won Interstate Athletic Conference Championships in both 1990 and 1991.

In 2014, Landon named their facilities the Boehly Family Wrestling Room in honour of Boehly.

Chelsea takeover

In 2022, Boehly is leading a consortium to buy Chelsea from Roman Abramovich for 4.25 billion pounds which would be the biggest takeover in history.

Boehly's group includes billionaires Mark Walter, Hansjorg Wyss and investment firm Clearlake Capital, with a takeover set to take place at the end of May.
