Chelsea transfer news: The Blues are said to be interested in signing Jadon Sancho and can make that a reality with one of their best appointments of the year.
Chelsea have been somewhat surprisingly linked with a shock move for Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho this summer. The player is out of favour at Old Trafford with Erik ten Hag possessing a plethora of options outside of him that all appear to be higher up the pecking order.
His two years in Manchester have been disappointing and now, as Chelsea prepare for just as shocking talks over a potential loan move for Marc Cucurella to the north of England, there are murmurs that Sancho going the opposite direction could be on the cards.
As Chelsea seek to find a new player to fill their currently depleted No.10 gap in the squad, Sancho is a player that makes sense. He is of the right age and positional versatility. He is homegrown, English and looking for a new chance. Combine that with Mauricio Pochettino's record of improving forwards and it seems to be a no-brainer if possible.
However, caution is to be urged as Ben Jacobs writes for Si Phillips Talks Chelsea: "I know some fans are talking about Jadon Sancho but I'm not aware that Chelsea have looked to date." He goes on to add that Tottenham looked at him earlier in the window too.
It was Shields that saw Sancho's talents as a teenager at Watford and his interest in the player was part of why they spent £66,000 to buy him. Two years later, as Sancho made a serious name for himself in the academy and attracted attention from across the world, he was signed by Borussia Dortmund for £8million. When he then made the move back to Manchester in 2021, this time in red, Shields was still at City, now in a more senior role.
