'Moneyball' genius Billy Beane is part of a company who could launch a bid to buy Chelsea from Roman Abramovich.
Beane used to play baseball, before making his name with his famous 'Moneyball' approach as general manager of Major League Baseball's Oakland A's.
The 59-year-old, who is now executive of the Oakland A's, has teamed up with US investment firm RedBird Capital Partners led by Gerry Cardinale to form RedBall Acquisition Corp.
Should they be successful in their potential bid, the company plan to create a business "which complements the management team's expertise and will benefit from its strategic and hands-on operational leadership"
The other candidates to buy Chelsea
Fanatics owner Michael Rubin is also a possible candidate to buy Chelsea and there is interest from Switzerland and Turkey to take over the Blues from Abramovich, who has declared an asking price of three billion pounds.
On Sunday, UFC star Conor McGregor announced his claim to make a bid to buy Chelsea was not made in jest.
