Chelsea fans losing patience with Jorginho as he hasn't set up single goal

The patience of Chelsea fans appears to be wearing thin when it comes to big money summer signing Jorginho, who has hit a record amount of passes in the Premier League this season - but has no assists.

The Italian arrived from Napoli as Maurizio Sarri's famed playmaker, though his career at Stamford Bridge is yet to hit the big heights.

Chelsea got off to a fine start to the season and Jorginho was widely praised during the club's initial unbeaten run, but fans have grown irritable after realising Manchester City's goalkeeper Ederson has more assists than the £57million man.

A statistic has surfaced this week showing Jorginho is the first player to make 1,896 league passes, without registering an assist.

The numbers don't reflect kindly on the 27-year-old, who turned down the lure of Pep Guardiola and Manchester City to join Sarri at Chelsea.

Along with Ederson, other Premier League players who have more assists than Jorginho include Cardiff centre-back Sol Bamba and Manchester United substitute midfielder Marouane Fellaini.

While the thoughts of some fans online clearly don't represent the views of the fanbase as a collective, some supporters are beginning to question the signing.

'It's not Jorginho's job to score/assist so we basically spent £60m for a player who can only pass backwards and sideways, decent business,' wrote one disgruntled supporter.

'Most of his passes are back to our defenders, all he is doing is keeping Kante from his most comfortable role and Loftus-Cheek from consistent minutes,' added another.

Jorginho featured on Tuesday evening as Chelsea were defeated 1-0 by rivals Tottenham at Wembley in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

The Blues must now look to overturn the deficit at Stamford Bridge if they are to progress to the final and compete for the first piece of silverware of the season.
