Chelsea hit with transfer ban after Premier League ruling

Chelsea has received a major sanction after the Premier League concluded its investigation into breaches of financial regulations. The London club will face a one-year ban on signing first-team players, although the punishment carries a two-year suspended sentence.

In addition, the club must pay fines totaling £10.75 million and will also serve a nine-month transfer ban within its youth academy. The Premier League explained that the sanctions relate to financial reporting violations, third-party payments and breaches of youth development rules.

According to the investigation, undeclared payments linked to third parties were made between 2011 and 2018 to players, agents and other individuals connected to the club. The league stated that these transactions were not properly declared to regulatory authorities at the time.

Chelsea cooperated with investigators and confirmed that it had voluntarily reported potential irregularities in 2022. In an official response, the club said it was satisfied to have resolved the matter, stressing that the investigation also confirmed it had not exceeded the Premier League’s permitted financial loss limits.
