Before Chelsea's Premier League Round 2 match against Brighton, Chelsea officials held a memorial service at Stamford Bridge for club legend Bobby Tambling and former club chairman Ken Bates.
On June 3 this year, Chelsea's legendary striker Bobby Tambling passed away at the age of 84. Tambling played for Chelsea from 1959 to 1970, scoring 202 goals, and held Chelsea's all-time top scorer record for 47 years until it was broken by Frank Lampard.
On July 11 this year, former Chelsea chairman Ken Bates passed away at the age of 94. In 1982, Ken Bates purchased Chelsea, which was in financial crisis, for £1. He managed the club for 21 years, turning the Blues around, until he sold Chelsea to Roman Abramovich in 2003.
In their first home game of the new season, Chelsea paid tribute to the two departed legends at Stamford Bridge.
