Christopher Vivell was a technical director within Chelsea's sporting structure
Christopher Vivell is currently on gardening leave from Chelsea, with co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart taking on greater responsibility in overseeing everything in the football structure.
Vivell, formally of Red Bull Leipzig where he was responsible for recruitment and scouting, was hired late in 2022 as the Blues technical director. His remit involved oversight of football globally with Joe Shields, Kyle Macaulay and Jim Fraser leading on talent management and recruitment, and Matthew Hallam leading on data and analysis.
Following his appointment, Vivell stated he believed Chelsea was the most exciting project in world football. The German was one of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital's first appointments after the former had been interim-sporting director last summer.
He said: "Chelsea are building the most exciting project in global football and I’m extremely proud to be joining the club. There is so much potential for the club to continue to succeed, develop and grow.
"Under the new ownership, Graham Potter and the broader sporting team, there is a clear and sustainable philosophy underpinned by performance analysis, data and innovation, and I am looking forward to playing a part in that."
Vivell's departure will see Winstanley and Stewart consolidate his responsibilities as they continue to work on the football structure of the club. The duo have overseen Chelsea's project since the club announced their footballing structure in February, with Vivell perhaps becoming less prominent as a result

Honestly I am beginning to question the sanity of Todd Boehly and the other Chelsea owners. They don't seem to be mentally stable enough to run anything. The kind of stupid decisions they make baffles me.
