Chelsea monitoring Kylian Mbappé situation

Last night, reports announced that French forward Kylian Mbbapé would not be activating his contract extension until 2025, making him a free agent next summer. Being one of the best players in the world and a key element to Paris Saint-Germain’s team, this has obviously rustled a few feathers at the club, as well as attracting interest from numerous clubs around Europe.

This is the case for Chelsea, according to The Times. The Blues have notoriously been the most active club on the transfer market over the past few months, spending over £600 million to acquire a large amount of young and promising players. However, adding Kylian Mbappé to the project would be huge step forward for Todd Boehly’s plan for the club.

According to the report, Chelsea are expected to register their interest in the winger, who recently won the Player of the Year award in Ligue 1, after yet another impressive season. However, the Blues will face fierce competition, no less by Real Madrid, who have been clear favourites to sign him for years now.

Having declared previously that he is a fan of the Merengue, Mbappé has always entertained a chance of joining the Spanish capital. He came very close to joining last summer, instead choosing to extend his contract until next summer with PSG. Following a difficult season, which saw another elimination in the last 16 of the Champions League, it seems that Mbappé is looking at finding a new club to reach new levels in his career.

Manchester United is also discussed in The Times’ report, but Harry Kane still seems to be the priority for the Red Devils. Bringing the Frenchman to Stamford Bridge will be challenging, not only because of the discussions with Real Madrid in the past, but also with UEFA keeping a close eye on the Blues over Financial Fair Play regulations. If they do manage to bring him to the Premier League however, this would certainly be the new marquee signing of the Boehly era.
