Chelsea new boy Saul expects to improve after leaving Atletico Madrid

Chelsea's latest arrival Saul Niguez has revealed how he expects to see a new and improved version of himself after stepping out of his 'comfort zone' to move to the Premier League.

The midfielder arrived on an initial loan deal from Atletico Madrid late on transfer deadline day, and is expected to compete with the likes of N'Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic for a spot in the centre of the pitch.

Despite being well aware of the talent in his position, Saul insists he is confident about making his mark at Stamford Bridge in the coming months.

'The three midfielders who are playing are at a high level. It will not be easy to play, but if I put my mind to it and fight it, I can get it,' Saul told Spanish internet celebrity Ibai Llanos in a conversation on Twitch.

'Chelsea has promised me to train in my position [midfield], but to play we will see. To return to certain roles that I do not play in now - that is the most important reason for my decision.

'This transfer is a step out of my comfort zone for me. I believe that you will see a new Saul in a new [better] place.'

Although now seemingly happy at his new place of work, it did look at one point as though the move would fall through with the deadline fast approaching.

In the end, Saul's move sparked a trio of late transfers, with Atletico Madrid re-signing Antoine Griezmann from Barcelona, and Luuk de Jong heading to the Nou Camp from Sevilla.

Saul admits that he feared the worst late on, telling Llanos: 'I thought "this is not going to come in and that's it". It has been a long afternoon and night.

'My wife was very nervous. We have had some very complicated days because this decision is not easy. Leaving my home on a new adventure is complicated.'

Despite the complications, though, Saul is now settling in London, and is expected to be in the Blues squad for two home matches this week, against Aston Villa in the Premier League and Zenit St Petersburg in the Champions League.
