Chelsea ready to sanction two permanent transfers after agreeing Omorodion deal

Chelsea want to find buyers for Armando Broja and David Datro Fofana after agreeing a £34.5million deal for Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion.  After several rounds of intensive talks, the Blues finally reached an agreement for the 20-year-old frontman on Tuesday after Manchester City attacker Julian Alvarez agreed contractual terms with Diego Simeone's side. Chelsea had initially walked away from the table for Omorodion after seeing an approach rebuffed earlier in the transfer window but talks were reignited during discussions for Conor Gallagher, who is joining Atletico in a separate £36m deal.  And the arrival of Omorodion will see Broja and Datro Fofana fall even further down the Chelsea pecking order with talks over their futures now set to intensify.

Broja was left out of Chelsea's squad for their 2-1 pre-season defeat to Real Madrid in Charlotte on Tuesday night - a clear indication that he is not part of Enzo Maresca's plans.  Maresca later explained: "It was just a decision [to leave him out of the squad vs Real Madrid]. Luckily for us he's not injured. At this moment, we'll see what happens [with his future]."  The Albanian international barely featured on loan at Fulham in the second half of last season, playing just 81 minutes of competitive action. AC Milan, Everton, Wolves, Monaco and Southampton have all previously shown interest in the 22-year-old but it remains to be seen if any of those clubs are still eyeing a swoop for his services.  Meanwhile, Datro Fofana has been the subject of interest from Leicester City and Stuttgart, among others. The Ivory Coast international flourished on loan at Burnley in the second half of last season after being recalled from a short-lived spell in the Bundesliga with Union Berlin.

Chelsea signed the 21-year-old from Norwegian side Molde in January 2023 and there is a chance he may only depart on loan, though the Blues are thought to be open to a permanent deal.

There is also a decision to make on newly-signed Spanish forward Marc Guiu, who has made an impression in pre-season after arriving from Barcelona for around £5m.  The 18-year-old could head out on loan or alternatively, stay, and feature prominently in Chelsea's UEFA Conference League campaign. The Blues are set to face Braga or Servette in a two-legged play-off for a place in the group stages of the competition.

Any fees Chelsea receive for either player could help towards their push for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. Romelu Lukaku has already agreed personal terms with the Italian side and he could head in the other direction to reunite with Antonio Conte.

Chelsea youngster Alfie Gilchrist is also set to join Sheffield United on a season-long loan after breaking into the first-team under Mauricio Pochettino earlier this year.
