Chelsea's Zouma stance revealed amid Everton transfer interest

Chelsea will wait before making a decision on the future of defender Kurt Zouma.

Everton want to take the France international back to Goodison Park permanently after an impressive loan spell last term.

Zouma and Chelsea face a key decision with the 24-year-old telling friends he would love to return to Everton.

But he is likely to be given a chance to force his way back into the first team at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea currently expect the Frenchman back for pre-season training, with many of the club’s senior and youth players due to return on July 4.

Zouma may get extra time off after being involved with France this month, but it is understood no decision will be made on his future until the club’s new manager is in place.

That is expected to be Frank Lampard, who knows Zouma well and likes him, but is likely to want to see how he looks in training before making the final call.

Lampard is well aware of Zouma’s attributes but has yet to see how he might gel with the rest of Chelsea’s defenders, in whatever system he decides to implement.

It is also worth remembering that Chelsea handed Zouma a new and improved six-year contract as recently as 2017, when he still had two years to run on his original deal.
