After arriving from Juventus for £12.5M, Chiesa’s game time under manager Arne Slot has been limited to say the least. Despite the Italian’s bright start to the season with two goals and three assists, he has yet to start a Premier League game under the Dutchman.

Due to injuries at Juventus and a slow start at Liverpool, Chiesa has not played for Italy since the last European Championships, where they crashed out in the Round of 16 to Switzerland.

This week, Italy boss Gennaro Gattuso has urged Chiesa to make the switch back to the Serie A as the head coach believes a move back would be favourable for Chiesa's career which he thinks is at a "crossroads,"

“I often talk to him,” the Italy boss said. 'We have to respect the decisions and problems that each of us has.

“We know well what we tell each other, and I must respect what the player tells me. I can't say anything else.”

Now, journalist Emanuele Cammaroto has stated that "discussions are underway" with Napoli as the winger prepares to make the switch back to his homeland in what would come as a shock move to Liverpool fans, who see Chiesa as a cult figure.

Roma and AC Milan are also interested in the 28-year-old who cannot leave his mark on Slot’s starting eleven. Chiesa has played 344 minutes for Slot's side already this season, marking a vast improvement on the 104 minutes he was given across six Premier League games last season.

However, it is not seen as enough for him or Gattuso as he continues to leave him out of his Italy side.
