With the games coming thick and fast and problems within their own ranks, Real Madrid haven't been able to dwell on what could have been during the summer transfer window.
Los Blancos missed out on a number of big-name signings, none of which are particularly impressing for their respective clubs this season.
We've taken a look at how four potential arrivals in future windows are getting on.
Neymar: Another injury and a difficult divorce to fix with PSG
The Paris Saint-Germain forward suffered yet another injury while on international duty with Brazil in October, but it's nothing serious this time.
In terms of PSG action, Neymar has played as many games as he has missed with the French side (63 on each side).
He was given a hostile reception by the PSG fans upon returning to the team at the start of the season but a couple of crucial winners in Ligue 1 have taken the heat off the superstar for now.
Paul Pogba: Ankle injury limiting his playing time
The Frenchman is yet to score for Manchester United this season in the 540 minutes that he has spent on the pitch.
The rest has been spent on the sidelines with a recurring ankle injury which has forced him to miss six matches already.
Pogba made no secret of his desire to leave Old Trafford in the summer, but Real Madrid wouldn't pay his asking price, despite Zinedine Zidane's desperation to sign him.
Christian Eriksen: Fallen out of favour under Mauricio Pochettino
Another player who made it clear that he wanted to leave his club, Eriksen has had very little impact on the pitch for Tottenham this season.
The Dane wanted a move to Real Madrid but, with Zidane's eyes on Pogba, Los Blancos refused to do the deal in the summer.
He was reinstalled in the Spurs team at the start of the campaign before being dropped from the starting 11 for their last two games.
His contract runs out in June and he's free to talk to other clubs about a pre-contract agreement in January.
Donny Van de Beek: Ajax's leader in the absence of Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt
After making a good impression during Ajax's 4-1 win at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in March, many were tipping Van de Beek to make the move to the Spanish capital in the summer.
No such transfer came about and he ended up staying in the Netherlands, with Ajax hoping to offer him a new contract.
He's played 14 times for the Amsterdam side this season, scoring three goals and making six assists.
One of those goals came in the Champions League during an exceptional display against Valencia at Mestalla.

We've got enough CBs in our squad and some of the most promising young CBs are out on loan. I don't think we should sign A CB now. Instead Zizou should give them playtime and let's see if they are worthy of the Real Madrid jersey. But the truth is none of 'em can replace El Capitano in near future.
