Napoli consolidated their place in the top four of Serie A and dented Como's hopes of breaking in with a 0-0 draw at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on Saturday.
Match Report
Como went into the game knowing that a win would put them level on points with Juventus – who face Verona on Sunday – for the final Champions League qualification spot, but they were unable to get the result they needed.
Tasos Douvikas went close to putting them in front in the eighth minute but by delaying after rounding Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, he allowed Amir Rrahmani to get back and block his shot on the line.
Ivan Smolcic headed wide before Milinkovic-Savic raced out to deny Assane Diao as the teams went into half-time level, despite Como having an expected goals (xG) tally of 0.95.
Diao headed over from close range on the hour mark and Milinkovic-Savic produced another great stop to keep Martin Baturina's deflected effort out of the bottom corner.
Scott McTominay sent Napoli's first shot of the second half wide in the 80th minute and Matteo Politano rattled the upright with a tremendous curling shot from the edge of the box four minutes later.
Neither team found a breakthrough before the final whistle, with the result opening the door for Inter to clinch the Scudetto with just a point against Parma on Sunday.
Data Debrief: Como the clean sheet kings
Como have now gone unbeaten in three straight Serie A games against Napoli (1W, 2D) for the first time in their history, but their Champions League hopes still took a blow.
They have kept 17 clean sheets this season – more than any other time in the top five European leagues – with four of them coming in their past six Serie A outings.
