Confirmed: Chelsea sounded out Spanish manager

Girona manager Michel Sanchez is up for manager of the season in La Liga, and barring a major surprise, should pick up the award after taking a team with a bottom half budget to the Champions League. It’s won him no shortage of admirers, and not just in Spain.

There were reports earlier in the season that Chelsea had been in contact about Michel’s availability, and Matteo Moretto has confirmed that the Blues did sound him out, but in a very soft manner, without looking to pursue him.

They remain amongst his admirers, of which there are multiple in the Premier League. Michel was also linked to Barcelona earlier in the season, but when Xavi Hernandez’s job security was in question, talk of him taking over died down. There is little doubting the fact that he will be in the frame for big jobs from here on out though, following his excellent exploits.
