Coventry City chairman Doug King insisted their fans should not worry about rumours linking Frank Lampard to the Chelsea job next season.

Lampard guided the Sky Blues back to the Premier League for the first time in 25 years after a 5-1 win over Portsmouth on Tuesday clinched the Championship title.

The former Chelsea midfielder and manager joined Coventry in November 2024, and while they were knocked out of the play-off semi-finals last season, they got across the line this time around.

Overall, Lampard has won 42 of his 73 Championship games in charge of the Sky Blues, boasting a 57.5% win percentage and averaging 1.93 points per game.

He has had two previous spells managing Chelsea in the top-flight, one coming as interim boss, and Lampard won just 29 of his 66 games in the competition (D13 L24).

Chelsea sacked head coach Liam Rosenior on Wednesday, with the Blues failing to score in each of their last five league games, which all ended in defeat.

King, however, told BBC CWR that there is no reason for Coventry fans to panic about Lampard's immediate future.

"He's done a fantastic job, it's been an incredible 18 months for us and for him," King said about Lampard.

"I am sure he's in reflective mode. I said to him 'do not underestimate how difficult what you've just achieved is to do'.

"He's done huge things in his playing career but to get out of this league as champions without a parachute payment, from where we've come from, is a huge achievement nobody can take away from him.

"Everybody is going to get linked with everything, it's a merry-go-round. It's a bit disappointing clubs are appointing three or four managers a season.

"We don't want to be in those positions, that means something has gone a little bit astray.

"I just think he's happy, I'm happy, everybody's happy, we've just got smiles on our faces and we don't worry about what may or may not happen for the head coach."
