Cristiano Ronaldo’s luck seems to have run cold in Saudi Arabia. The Portuguese superstar has yet to win a trophy with Al Nassr (the Arab Club Champions Cup is not officially recongized by FIFA), and the latest league results suggest that streak may continue. After a string of disappointing performances, Al Nassr has collected just one point in the last three matches, losing the top spot in the standings. The prospect of Ronaldo’s first trophy with the club is now hanging by a thread.

Ronaldo’s Real Madrid reunion

The latest setback came against Al Qadsiah, where ex-Real Madrid defender Nacho Fernández started and captained his team, sharing a warm pregame handshake with former teammate Ronaldo. Al Nassr controlled the first half but struggled to convert chances. Ronaldo had a single opportunity, João Félix another, though he appeared overly focused on his own shot. The most dangerous chance came from Quiñones, whose strike tested Al Qadsiah goalkeeper Al Aqidi to the limit.

The second half turned the game on its head. Al Aqidi tried to chip the ball over the pressing Quiñones, but it ricocheted off the Mexican striker’s head and into the net. Al Nassr tried to respond, again through João Félix, who was a constant threat. The match took a scary turn when goalkeeper Casteels was forced off on a stretcher after a heavy collision with Angelo, leaving fans tense.

Late drama falls short for Cristiano and Al Nassr

After a pause, the score stood at 0-2. Nández capitalized on a rebound from Al Aqidi following a fierce strike by Retegui to seal the game. Nacho Fernández made a desperate clearance off the line, preventing an even closer finish.

Ronaldo finally cut the deficit in the 82nd minute, converting a penalty after Thakri handled the ball. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner raised his arms to rally his teammates and energize the crowd. Despite 11 minutes of added time, during which Ronaldo appealed for another penalty, the score remained 1-2.

The defeat leaves Al Nassr in a difficult position both in the standings and mentally as the season enters a critical phase.
