Cristiano Ronaldo turned down PSG, AC Milan and Manchester United

It was months before his Juventus move became official that Cristiano Ronaldo made the decision to leave Real Madrid, as his frustration at not being the world's highest-paid player became a problem.

His last renewal at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu saw him receive 25 million euros per year, or 30m euros including variables, but this figure still fell short of that of Lionel Messi and so he decided that 2017/18 would be his last with Los Blancos.

Once his departure was decided upon, he had to choose his destination and his agent Jorge Mendes insisted on his exit by telling Florentino Perez that his client had no interest in continuing in Madrid, with the player told he could leave if he could find a club willing to pay 100m euros.

According to a report in El Mundo, the first offer for Ronaldo arrived from Milan.

Manchester United reportedly made the first formal call to Real Madrid as they considered reuniting with the player at Old Trafford, but their low offer meant the deal never came to pass.

PSG then came to Mendes, but with one condition.

If they were to sign him then it had to be on the final day of the market so that Real Madrid couldn't move for Neymar or Kylian Mbappe, but Ronaldo saw this as being too risky and again chose to say no.

It was Ronaldo himself who enquired about the possibility of Juventus.

"I like them because they are an organised club and I do not forget that they tried to sign me when I was at Sporting CP," he reasoned.

He valued their competitiveness and their regularity in the latter stages of the Champions League, considering that he could win the European trophy again.

The ovation he received at the Juventus Stadium last season only made his desire to play there deepen.

Real Madrid made one final attempt to keep their No.7, but the player was not interested in backing down.

Even if Perez were to have offered the Portuguese double, he was still determined to move to Juventus, which is what he ultimately did.
