Crystal Palace 0-0 Man City: Eagles miss a penalty but they still spoil Guardiola's party

  /  autty

Resilient Crystal Palace famously hold off high flying Manchester City to end Pep Guardiola's hope of equaling his own 19-league-game winning record. Eagles should have won the game though, but Luka Milivojević's late penalty is saved by Ederson Moraes.

Match events

2' Strong start from City as Bernardo Silva slices his shot wide in the opening minutes, and seconds later Fernandinho's shot is well blocked.

17' Christian Benteke loses possession in his own half to Kevin De Bruyne, the Belgian is then brought down on the edge of the penalty area by Scott Dann. The Palace defender is down in pain and replaced by Martin Kelly.

23' The earlier injury to Jesus is not clearing up, the striker sits on the turf before hobbling off in tears. He's distraught, City will wait for news on how severe his problem is. On comes Sergio Aguero...not a bad replacement!

28' POST! Aguero nearly makes an immediate impact. The striker given far, far too much time, his shot deflects off a Palace defender and loops onto the post with Hennessey at full stretch. De Bruyne can't force home the rebound.

62' WHAT A SAVE TO DENY CITY! City have found another gear but Hennessey will not be beaten. A deep, deflected, cross from Sterling finds its way to Sane at the back post, his effort superbly kept out by the Palace keeper's shoulder.

77' Andros Townsend misses a sitter. An absolute sitter. Puncheon's shot is blocked, the ball rolls to Zaha, his low cross finds its way to an unmarked Townsend who blazes over the crossbar. It looked easier to score! Let off for City.

81' BLOCK! Martin Kelly is again in the way as the ball falls for De Bruyne, his low shot booted clear by the Palace defender.

90+3' PENALTY MISS FROM MILIVOJEVIC!

Milivojevic is denied by a brilliant save from Ederson, the keeper keeping it out with his feet as the midfielder looks to go down the middle. City break in the aftermath and earn a free-kick, while De Bruyne and Puncheon are both down receiving treatment.

90+4' What an awful challenge from Puncheon to stop De Bruyne, taking him out at knee height with a reckless tackle. Stretchers for both men.
