Franck Ribéry, Mario Balotelli, Gary Cahill, Daniel Sturridge and Luis Filipe are some of the other high-profile out-of-contract players who are available free of charge.
Daniel Alves has rejuvenated his career. At the ripe old age of 36, the right-back was recently chosen as Copa America’s player of the tournament, after he captained Brazil to their first title in 12 years.
It was the 40th trophy of his career and he seems to have no plans on slowing down. The ex-Barcelona defender wants to continue playing at the highest level in Europe, with the aim of reaching the World Cup in Qatar 2022 still holding the captain’s armband.
And after a decent final season at PSG, where he played on the wing in coach Thomas Tuchel’s system and Copa America success, Alves has returned to Europe to listen to offers from two clubs.
The Brazil captain heads a list of high-profile free agents that are arousing great interest in Europe.
Franck Ribéry (Bayern Munich)
After eleven successful seasons, Franck Ribéry's illustrious career with Bayern Munich has come to and end. Although the Frenchman has admitted: "I want to play one or two more years".
The 36-year-old, who boasts the record of nine Bundesliga titles, as well as one Champions League medal (2013), has confirmed that he has had offers from several European clubs and will decide his future in the coming weeks.
Gary Cahill (Chelsea)
The now former Chelsea centre back, Gary Cahill is another veteran who is available free of charge this summer. During his ten years at Stamford Bridge, the 33-year-old won two Premier League titles, the Champions League in 2012, as well as the Europa League and FA Cup.
Cahill has hinted at a return to his origins at Aston Villa, the club where he debuted as a professional at 19 that is set to return to the Premier League next season after gaining promotion from the Championship.
Other free agents: Wellbeck, Fillipe Luis, Balotelli
If a club is looking for goals, Fernando Llorente (Tottenham, 34), Mario Balotelli (Marseille, 28), Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool, 29), Danny Welbeck (Arsenal, 28) and Andy Carroll (West Ham, 30) are some of the big-name strikers that are now free agents.
Among the out-of-work midfielders are Yacini Brahimi (Porto, 29), Ben Arfa (Rennes, 32), Claudio Marchisio (Zenit, 33) and Swansea captain, Leroy Fer (29). Meanwhile in defence, Atlético Madrid’s legendary full back pairing, Filipe Luis (33) and Juanfran (34), are available free of charge, as to is Uruguayan international Martin Cáceres, who has ended his time with Lazio.
