David Alaba responds to Bayern Munich contract decision with transfer statement

David Alaba has hit out at Bayern Munich chiefs after discovering that a contract offer from the club had been withdrawn on the news.

And he says his long-term future is now uncertain, but insists he has not been in contact with any other clubs over a potential lucrative free transfer next summer.

It is the latest twist in the long-running contract saga between the Austrian international and the European champions.

Alaba, who has been at Bayern since 2008, is out of contract at the Allianz Arena next summer.

Despite emerging as the defensive leader of the side under Hansi Flick, contract negotiations between club bosses and his representatives, led by agent Pini Zahavi, have proved tumultuous.

Honorary president Uli Hoeness has labelled Zahavi a "greedy piranha." and insinuated that Alaba was only interested in money.

That led Alaba’s father, George, to respond, accusing Hoeness of “spreading dirty lies”.

Alaba, 28, has made more than 400 appearances for the club and is understood to be seeking a substantial pay rise that puts him among the Bavarians’ top earners.

He has denied accusations that his financial demands were excessive.

However, on Sunday night, current president Herbert Hainer announced that a new deal was no longer on the table.

Hainer told Bavarian broadcaster BR24: “We submitted to David and his advisor some time ago what we think was a very fair, competitive offer.

“We told David's agent during the last meeting that we wanted clarity and an answer by the end of October because we want to plan for such an important position and player. We did not hear anything until Saturday.

"Our sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic then contacted the agent and the answer was that the offer is still unsatisfying and that we should think more.

"We then decided to take the offer off the table completely. That means there is no longer any offer."

Perhaps surprisingly, Alaba was elected on Monday to take part in the club’s pre-match press conference ahead of their Champions League encounter with FC Salzburg this week.

And Alaba took the opportunity to express his disappointment that the club haven't been in contact with him, while again insisting that he is not holding the club to ransom amid transfer interest from elsewhere.

“I heard it like everyone else on the news,” said the Austrian.

“I cannot say how it will continue from this point. I really enjoy playing for FC Bayern. I feel content and happy to be a part of this team.

“But what the future will look like after yesterday evening I just cannot say, as no one has talked to me officially. We'll see how things go from here.

“I can completely understand the fans. I wish internal stuff would stay internal.

“The numbers out there do not correspond to reality and I am a bit disappointed and sad that the club never officially came out to say they are wrong.”

Alaba has been linked with Italian duo Inter Milan and Juventus, as well as Real Madrid.

Liverpool, Manchester UnitedChelsea and Manchester City have all been suggested as potential English destinations too.

Asked about a possible move to the English Premier League, Alaba said: “I have not made any thoughts about my future because Bayern was always the first point of contact.

“I had no contact with other clubs for that reason.”

Bayern boss Flick, who led the side to the treble last season, has made no secret of his desire for Alaba to remain.

On Monday he again insisted: "I'd love to see David stay here because he's a great player and person.

“He is popular in the team and in the club.

I am convinced that, just as in the previous games, he will get his top performance and do everything to ensure that FC Bayern succeeds."
