David Beckham listens back to commentary of free-kick against Greece

David Beckham has listened back to the commentary of his iconic stoppage-time free-kick which sent England to the 2002 World Cup.

It is 20 years to the day since Beckham sent Three Lions fans wild with a sensational set-piece against Greece at Old Trafford right at the death.

And the former England captain posted a video of himself listening to the heart in mouth moment for the first time on Wednesday morning.

The ex-Manchester United star was sat on the edge of his sofa as Alan Green's radio commentary was played.

Beckham looked emotional as he listened to the tense moment and let out a few smiles ahead of his free-kick hitting the back of the net.

Alongside the clip, he wrote: 'Twenty years ago today and my first time listening to this commentary... To represent my country, to Captain my country, to score a goal for the fans, and to do it all at Old Trafford.'

Green says: 'Captain Beckham waits... Beckham comes forward, right-footed, over the wall and in! David Beckham has done it,' to which the 46-year-old shakes his head - almost in disbelief.

Beckham then gives a knowing look to the camera and a nonchalant shrug of the shoulders.

The Three Lions found themselves 2-1 down to Greece as the match headed into added time as Sven-Goran Eriksson's team struggled in their decisive World Cup qualifier in 2001.

England fell behind in the 36th minute but striker Teddy Sheringham equalised in the second half. However their parity was short-lived as Greece took the lead moments later.

Beckham produced the exquisite free-kick from 25 yards out to rescue England in the 93rd minute and send them to Japan and South Korea a year later.
