In terms of international acclaim the list of Manchester City greats isn't overly extensive, yet David Silva easily fits into that category, and the Spaniard has admitted that it was his parents' divorce that made clear to him it was time to leave Spain for England back in 2010.
Since then the midfield playmaker has dazzled supporters at the Etihad Stadium with his incredible technical style, as well as being a pivotal part of three separate Premier League title triumphs.
"At that time I was living with my parents and they were getting divorced, it was the right time to move away from Spain and have a new experience," he told Gary Lineker in an interview with the BBC.
"Manchester City really wanted me, joining them was one of the best decisions of my life.
"They had called me since December asking me to play for them, I asked myself which team loved me and I came up with the conclusion that Manchester City loved me so I should go there."
Pep Guardiola's work with the Blues has been sensational to this point, totally transforming the team into serious Champions League contenders, with Silva himself praising the former Barcelona coach.
"He's a football genius," he admitted.
"He sees things before they actually happen and that's an advantage.
"Some of my coaches have focused on attack, others on defence, but he covers the whole pitch, he's taught me to be more patient on the pitch."
Despite showing no signs of slowing down in the Premier League, the former Spanish international only has two more seasons left on his contract at the Etihad, and admits he isn't sure of what his next move will be, despite the constant links with a return to his hometown club, Las Palmas.
"I have two more seasons with City on my contract, but after that I don't know," he confirmed.
"It depends on how I feel physically.
"I've always said that I would like to play for Las Palmas, but we'll see how things are in two years."
