David De Gea is prepared for a fresh contract offer from Manchester United as talks over a new deal continue. The Spain goalkeeper is about to enter the final 12 months of his existing deal at Old Trafford and has been linked with Paris St-Germain and Juventus.
United are insistent De Gea will not be sold this summer, despite the threat of losing him as a free agent at the end of next season, and remain in dialogue with the goalkeeper's agent, Jorge Mendes.
Although negotiations have been ongoing for about 18 months and United have been reluctant to meet De Gea's wage demands, the club want to keep the 28-year-old and are considering a fresh proposal in a bid to end the impasse.
De Gea's existing contract is worth around £240,000 a week and he has been seeking a deal closer to Alexis Sanchez's £500,000 a week salary although it is unclear at this stage what United are prepared to offer their No. 1.
De Gea's form faltered during the second half of last season when he made a series of high profile errors but United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still considers him a crucial component of a squad expected to undergo plenty of change this summer.

I don't know why United would even act like they have any salary structure in place when there's none. What's the issue with paying one of our best players over the past 5 seasons what he wants? The only United player since the Ferguson Era who has consistently saved not just shots, but United. Won United's Player of the Year 3 times in a row. Was in the EPL Team of the Year for at least 3-4 out of 5 seasons. Was in FIFA best XI following the World Cup. Made crucial, impossible saves that made us think he was from another planet. Still one of the world's finest goalkeepers, even if he had a bad season. If not for de Gea, I don't know where United would be by now. Yet they don't want to meet his wage demands? But they have no qualms paying an underperforming Sanchez half a million a week. All that aside, I feared the non-existence of a wage structure would cause this disaffection among the United players concerning wages. You don't hear of issues like this with City, Spurs, Barcelona or even Madrid who are richer than Man United. Because they all have defined wage structures in place. Players there can't just ask for any wage they want--the moment they do that, they'll be told to walk. Now since Sanchez came in, everyone wants his wages doubled. To even get new signings to the club, they have to offer deals the likes of Barca and Madrid find difficult to match. What's the point of having the most attractive pay package--when all it does is just encourage mediocrity, a lack of commitment from the players and makes them focus more on what they get from the club than what they can give the club? Anyway, I feel de Gea is the only United player in a position to ask for a raise. Because he's one of the only few who've given their all.
