Inter right-back Denzel Dumfries is reportedly set to sign for Real Madrid after the Spanish giants activated his release clause, several sources reported on Wednesday.

Rumours of Denzel Dumfries, 30, moving to Real Madrid circulated earlier in the week, with Real Madrid and the Dutch right-back reportedly close to agreeing on personal terms on Tuesday evening.

On Wednesday, Fabrizio Romano and Florian Plettenberg reported that the deal was set to be completed after Real Madrid informed Inter of its decision to activate the €20-million release clause in Dumfries' contract. Dumfries had completed his medical tests in the Netherlands on Wednesday, Dutch sources confirmed.

Dumfries is set to sign a contract until June 2030 in Madrid, where José Mourinho is set to take over as manager, and Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate is also expected to sign a contract soon.

Eight trophies with Inter

Denzel Dumfries joined Inter from PSV in 2021 for a reported fee of around €14 million. The 71-time Netherlands international has since played 207 games across all competitions for Inter, winning Serie A twice, the Coppa Italia three times, and three Italian Super Cups.

Dumfries also reached the UEFA Champions League final twice with Inter, losing 1-0 to Manchester City in 2022 and 5-0 to Paris Saint-Germain in 2025.
