Diogo Dalot insists Ruben Amorim's tough love will lead Man United to success

Diogo Dalot is guaranteeing that tough love from Ruben Amorim will bring success to Manchester United.

Reaching Wednesday’s Europa League final against Tottenham cannot disguise a disastrous domestic campaign for United that saw Amorim question whether his players cared enough following last weekend’s home defeat by West Ham.

Fellow Portuguese Dalot said: ‘It hurts because I don’t want to hear my manager feels that about my team-mates. He doesn’t hide his emotions. That makes him an honest person, which is hard to find nowadays.

‘He is a nice guy but he can still give stick to everybody. He isn’t afraid to say what he thinks. He will not change for anybody because he thinks he is best for the club and I can guarantee you it is best for the club.’

Amorim is paying for families of his backroom staff to attend Wednesday’s match after the club axed freebies to cut costs.

‘It is an amazing gesture,’ said Dalot.

‘It shows how much he is willing to pay, in this case literally for everybody at United to be together.’

Another Portuguese influencer, Bruno Fernandes, can become the first captain to lead United to cup final success in three consecutive seasons.

The 30-year-old skippered the team to victory against Newcastle in the 2023 Carabao Cup final — Harry Maguire was on the bench — and was club captain by the time they defeated Manchester City in last season’s FA Cup final.

Dalot said: ‘The way he behaves with everyone is a great example for us. We need to follow him.’
