Dortmund 2-0 Augsburg: Adeyemi & Reggiani's goals help BVB seal victory at home

Borussia Dortmund's 18-year-old defender Luca Reggiani made history in a comfortable 2-0 victory over Augsburg at Signal Iduna Park, netting his first senior goal to become the youngest Italian scorer in Bundesliga history.

Buoyed by ending a three-game winless run with a 2-1 success against Köln, Dortmund flew out of the blocks to break through the Augsburg backline inside the opening 15 minutes. An incisive move saw Daniel Svensson slide the ball through to Maximilian Beier, whose deflected squared ball invited Karim Adeyemi to tuck home his second league goal of 2026. Waldemar Anton nearly offered Augsburg a swift route back into the contest when he failed to deal with a long kick forward, but Rodrigo Ribeiro could only fire the subsequent chance harmlessly over the crossbar.

That proved to be Dortmund’s only real moment of concern in a dominant first-half performance that was only lacking the insurance of a second goal. Beier and Adeyemi both went agonisingly close with fierce efforts that rattled the crossbar, before Finn Dahmen reacted smartly to keep out Jobe Bellingham’s long-range shot, ensuring his side remained in touching distance at the break.

Unfazed by their failure to double their lead before the interval, Niko Kovač’s continued to control proceedings after the restart, and it ultimately proved to be a matter of time until they grabbed a deserved second through an unlikely scorer. Reggiani – in just his fourth Bundesliga appearance – got away from his marker to meet Julian Ryerson’s corner and steer a composed header beyond Dahmen. 

Augsburg interim boss Manuel Baum made full use of his substitutes’ bench throughout the second, but the alterations failed to change the tide of a one-sided contest. In truth, the visitors were fortunate not to fall further behind, with Dahmen required to make a strong stop to deny Adeyemi late on. Nonetheless, the second-placed side will be absolutely satisfied with a 2-0 scoreline that sees them close the gap to leaders Bayern Munich to nine points, leaving the Fuggerstädter in ninth place following back-to-back defeats.
