Serhou Guirassy was on target as Borussia Dortmund boosted their European hopes by holding on for a 3-2 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach.

Match Report

Felix Nmecha and Daniel Svensson were also on target for Niko Kovac's side, who moved within two points of sixth-place Mainz.

The hosts, who were aiming to bounce back from their midweek Champions League quarter-final exit at the hands of Barcelona, fell behind in the 24th minute, as Ko Itakura struck against the run of play.

Dortmund were also forced into an early change with the in-form Maximilian Beier replaced by Carney Chukwuemeka.

However, Guirassy drilled them level from Pascal Gross' cutback in the 41st minute, while Nmecha slotted in to complete the turnaround and Svensson headed home to make it 3-1 in first-half stoppage time.

Kevin Stoger gave Gladbach hope from the penalty spot in the 56th minute - after Nmecha felled Tim Kleindienst - but Kovac's side held out for their third win in four league games.

Data Debrief: Brandt brings up 350 appearances

Dortmund continued their dominant record over Monchengladbach, who they have now beaten in 18 of their last 19 home Bundesliga meetings - winning each of the most recent 11.

The Black and Yellow are the first club to have inflicted 11 successive away defeats on Gladbach in their Bundesliga history.

On an individual note, Brandt came off the bench to make his 350th Bundesliga appearance.

At 28 years and 353 days old, he was the third-youngest player to reach the milestone - after Charly Korbel (28 years, 304 days) and Eike Immel (28 years, 338 days).
