EPL set for never-before-seen final day if results from last season are matched

THE Premier League could be decided on the final day - if history repeats itself.

Arsenal currently top the table by a point above champions Manchester City, who have a game in hand to bridge the gap.

Liverpool are still in the race but find themselves three points adrift following derby defeat to Everton.

But, according to a sensational Opta stat, all three title-chasing sides could be set to finish the season on 86 points.

That is if City, Liverpool and Arsenal all match their results from last season against their remaining opponents.

City have the most games remaining with five, against Wolves, Tottenham, Nottingham Forest, Fulham and West Ham.

The champions beat Wolves, Fulham and West Ham last season but drew against Forest and loss to Spurs to take ten points.

Arsenal beat Tottenham, Bournemouth and Everton but lost to United meaning the nine points there would take them to 86 points.

And Liverpool took the maximum 12 points after wins over West Ham, Spurs, Villa and Wolves.

So matching results would leave the top three all tied and the title would be decided on goal difference.

The only time the Prem has ever been won on goal difference was in 2012 thanks to Sergio Aguero's iconic last-gasp winner against QPR.

Currently, Arsenal have the best goal difference, leaving them in pole position for a first title win since their 2004 Invincibles year.
