It has been a tough few days for young Chelsea fans, who have seen their club engulfed in a racism storm following their weekend win over Manchester City.

Some festive cheer was needed, and it was provided when more than 150 young Chelsea fans were given a surprise treat at a Christmas party hosted by the club at Stamford Bridge.

They were expecting a range of fun activities, including football, table tennis and video games - but were not expecting to do them in the company of their footballing heroes.

Players including Eden Hazard, N'Golo Kante, Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata made a surprise appearance midway through the party.

They took part in the activities with the children, as well as posing for photographs and signing autographs for their fans.

Hazard told the club website: 'I think it's important for the kids. Our dream was to be a footballer, so the minimum we can do is take pictures and sign shirts.

'If we can bring some happiness in life during this Christmas period at this party, we can enjoy it together as a Chelsea family, and for the kids it is special.'

The supporters, aged between five and 13, were a mix of Blues fans and children invited from the Momentum Children's Charity, which supports young people with cancer and other illnesses in London and the south west.

It comes as the club have suspended four supporters from attending matches after they were caught on camera screaming abuse at Man City forward Raheem Sterling.

The matter is being investigated by Chelsea, the FA and the Metropolitan Police after Sterling said he heard racial abuse during the 2-0 defeat.
