Eibar hail Messi: We have nothing but to stand up and applaud you

Lionel Messi destroyed Eibar on Saturday by scoring four goals in Barcelona's 5-0 win and respect for the Argentine emanated from the Basque club after the game in a way that may never before have been seen from an opposition club after such a heavy defeat.

There was praise for the No.10's performance from several different people at the visiting club, starting with those behind the social media account.

"We suffered against you, we put up with you and we endured you," a tweet from Eibar said.

"Now there's nothing more to do but to stand up and applaud you."

Those points were also made by Jose Angel as he gave a post-match interview on the sidelines following the game.

"When Messi has an afternoon like that, it's very difficult," the Eibar left-back said.

"He makes you feel impotent.

"He scores goals that others can't."

Coach Jose Luis Mendilibar praised the Argentine as well in his post-match press conference.

"If you change Messi's shirt colour then the game could have been different," he said.

Eibar's awe of Messi is understandable, as he has now scored 20 goals against them in 11 games.
