Eight cities in six different countries could host the second leg of the Liverpool vs RB Leipzig Champions League tie on March 10.

Liverpool are leading the last-16 tie 2-0 after Tuesday night's first leg, which was played on neutral territory at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary.

The second leg was scheduled to be played at Anfield but Leipzig won't be able to travel to Merseyside as things stand because German government rules state they would have to quarantine for 10 days on their return.

Germany has imposed strict travel restrictions in an effort to prevent the new Covid-19 strain that originated in the United Kingdom spreading there.

According to The Athletic, up to eight different cities are being considered by UEFA to stage the second leg.

One option is a return to the Puskas Arena, while venues in Italy and Romania are also being considered.

A decision on the second leg venue is expected next week with UEFA confirming that discussions with the two club and their respective Football Associations are ongoing.

Liverpool are in command of the tie after goals from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane gave them a healthy two-goal advantage after the first leg.

But like Leipzig did, they will have to cede home advantage as a result of the complex travel restrictions around Europe that have seen a number of Champions League and Europa League games switched to neutral grounds.

Manchester City's last-16, first leg tie against German club Borussia Monchengladbach will also be played at the Puskas Arena next week, while Chelsea must play Atletico Madrid in the Romanian capital Bucharest.

In the Europa League, Manchester United will play Real Sociedad at the Juventus Stadium in Turin on Thursday night, while Arsenal will be 'homeless' for both legs of their tie with Benfica.

Portugal is one of the countries on the UK government's 'red list' meaning quarantine would be necessary. Therefore, Thursday's first leg will be at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome with the return next week in Athens.
