According to The Athletic, Emery said that contract extension talks with Aston Villa are progressing well and he hopes to finalize an agreement next week.
The Athletic reported that Villa are finalizing an agreement with Emery to extend his current contract beyond 2029. As part of the negotiations, the club are also discussing contract renewals with Emery's key figures, sporting director Roberto Olabe and director of football operations Damian Vidagany.
On Wednesday, after Villa's 3-0 Champions League defeat to Barcelona, Emery, Olabe and Vidagany met with co-owner Nassef Sawiris in Barcelona. Villa had previously made clear their desire to extend Emery's contract.
Emery said at Friday's pre-match press conference: "My goal is to maintain our stability. We are improving, building a lot of things, staying strong and maintaining consistency in our process. This is a huge challenge, but the club is developing."
"They decided to build a new stand to accommodate more fans. This is a clear step forward. So we are increasing capacity, increasing revenue through our performances, playing in Europe, developing players, selling players and bringing in talented young players. This is the vision we should stick to."
"I had a very good meeting with Nassef Sawiris. Very pleasant, very positive. So we will talk next week and try to put everything we discussed into an agreement."
"He (Sawiris) is very ambitious. He works hard. He invests a lot in everything. So for me, it's easy to have meetings with him because we are aligned."
"We talked about how to make our project stronger through an agreement."
Emery said he had met with co-owner Sawiris.
Villa travel to Old Trafford on Sunday, hoping to improve their poor record at the stadium. Emery has yet to win there since taking charge of Villa, and the club have won only two of their last 31 Premier League matches at Old Trafford. Emery hopes Wan-Bissaka will be available after he suffered a hamstring injury last month. With Matty Cash suspended, the former Manchester United defender may need to start.
