Manchester United continue to be linked with a move for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez and the Argentine's stance on a switch to Old Trafford has now been confirmed
Emi Martinez is already sold on the idea of joining Manchester United this summer and is said to have rebuffed offers from 'big-hitters' in the hope of pushing through a dream switch to Old Trafford.
There has been plenty of speculation that Martinez, 32, could move on in the coming weeks. The Argentina star was seen in tears after Aston Villa's final home game of the season and there has been talk that the club may need to sell in order to meet Profit and Sustainability Rules.
If Martinez is on the move then the World Cup winner will have no shortage of suitors and United have already been linked with him.
A new report from The Sun now claims that Martinez is 'desperate' to push through a move to United despite the fact that the Red Devils are coming off the back of their worst ever Premier League campaign.
And it's even been suggested that the Villa star has ignored offers from other top clubs in order to remain available for United.
A source told the publication: “Emi is big pals with Argentina team-mate Lisandro Martinez and is keen to move. He has already knocked back a couple of big hitters in the hope of joining United.
“Amorim is a huge admirer of his. He tried to sign him for Sporting in 2020 but lost out to Villa. He wants to fill the squad with captains and leaders and Emi fits the bill perfectly.”
While it's outlined that Ruben Amorim is an admirer of Martinez, who would cost around £40million, the goalkeeping situation at Old Trafford is currently up in the air.

It remains to be seen whether United will actually pursue a new first-choice goalkeeper despite Andre Onana's shaky form since joining the club two years ago. The Cameroon star has, however, been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia and France with reports earlier this week claiming Monaco are now keen to sign him.
There are also doubts over Altay Bayindir, the club's No.2 keeper. But with transfer funds limited and other areas of the squad to strengthen, United may have to cut their cloth accordingly over the coming weeks.
Bryan Mbeumo is in talks to become United's second summer signing with the Brentford forward keen to follow Matheus Cunha through the door at Old Trafford. Negotiations over a deal are ongoing with the Bees demanding in excess of £60m for their talisman.
