Real Madrid’s Endrick scored his first career hat trick at the Stade Saint-Symphorien on Sunday, but he did so wearing the jersey of French team Lyon.
The on-loan striker delivered a colossal performance to lead Paulo Fonseca’s Lyon to their fifth win of the year. Speaking to French soccer broadcaster Ligue 1+ he did not hide his emotions.
“It’s the first hat-trick of my life. I’m so happy. Really. It was an incredible match. I’m going to keep the ball at home. It’s an amazing day in my life.”
With that treble against Metz, Endrick has now recorded five goal involvements in his first three matches with Olympique Lyonnais, four goals and one assist. He is clearly enjoying himself in the French top flight.
“It’s good to play in this league. It’s tough and physical. There’s a lot of aggression. I like it. Now, let’s try to focus on the next match. I can’t play against PAOK in the Europa League but I’m going to watch it to cheer on my teammates.”
Endrick reiterated that his decision to leave Madrid, on a short-term loan deal, was “not a mistake” as he seeks more experience in European soccer.
“That’s life. My life is difficult. It’s not easy. I stay strong with the support of the people around me. I’m going to keep working. This is just the start. People told me Lyon was a good team and that I should sign for them. And yes, they are very good.”
He is taking every opportunity to develop and is already showing signs of real progress in France. When asked for his favorite of the hat-trick goals against Metz, he picked the one that he has been working hard to improve.
He explained: “My favorite of the three was the first. I watched the last match I played [against Brest], because I missed a chance that was similar to the one I scored today. It’s improvement.”
