England SNUB Mason Greenwood as Thomas Tuchel claims he is not a 'priority'

England have not made contact with Mason Greenwood amid confusion around the ex-Manchester United forward's international allegiance.

Jamaica head coach Steve McClaren had expected Greenwood to join up for two World Cup qualifiers in the coming days after obtaining a passport for the 23-year-old.

But Greenwood informed Jamaica that he will take more time to determine his international future and wanted to focus on featuring for Marseille.

Greenwood has one goal and two assists in three Ligue 1 games this term after netting 21 times last season.

Thomas Tuchel has not been in touch, however, and the FA have no current plans to offer a way back into the fold.

'I have not spoken to him,' Tuchel said. 'I have not spoken to him or his camp. My understanding was that he tries to play for Jamaica so we didn't give it another thought.

'He was not in the mix at the moment and he is not in our thoughts for our team. He is no priority at the moment.'

Greenwood featured just once for the England senior team, a substitute appearance against Iceland in September 2020 before he was then sent home after breaking Covid quarantine guidelines.

He can switch countries after making fewer than three appearances for England before turning 21.

McClaren said: 'It's a little bit disappointing, we probably have to be more patient. We will keep pursuing him because I know from my conversations with Mason that he loves Jamaica.'
