Beijing Time (CEST) June 1, according to The Sun, this World Cup will be the highest security World Cup in history, with the England team's base in the United States receiving comprehensive protection with a triple security barrier.
Reportedly, the team's hotel will be transformed into a "virtual fortress," with concrete roadblocks and shielding barriers set up around the hotel to mitigate potential sniper threats. A no-fly zone will be designated over the hotel to mitigate the risk of drone attacks, and a dedicated command center will be established opposite the hotel. The Meadowbrook Hotel, where the England team will be staying, has a total of 54 rooms, with a nightly rate of £260.
Around this hotel in Kansas, armed police, professional security personnel, and private bodyguards will be on patrol 24/7. The hotel will also install a large number of shielding facilities to prevent the 500 residents of nearby apartment buildings from peeking into the team's activities. Currently, the management of Meadowbrook Manor has sent a letter to surrounding residents, detailing the hotel's "three-tier security plan."
The letter states: "FIFA and the US Department of Homeland Security will be jointly responsible for the security outside the hotel, and the police department will increase police presence in nearby parks. Security personnel will also be fully equipped inside the hotel and will be openly on duty throughout... while ensuring the safety of the participating teams, measures will be taken to avoid any disruption to community residents."
Given Kansas's consistently high gun crime rate and potential terrorism threats, the security for the England team in this World Cup has been significantly enhanced compared to previous editions. The team's shuttle bus between the hotel and the Swope Soccer Village training ground will be escorted by police throughout the journey. The bus body will also be shielded to prevent onlookers and to resist drone intrusion.
An England team insider revealed: "The safety of players, staff, and accompanying family members is paramount, and the team's security measures in the US have been upgraded again. Players will have accompanying security personnel forming a mobile protective circle whenever they go out, and the hotel will become an impregnable fortress."
On June 13, after the England team officially moves into their Kansas base, players' partners, family members, and friends will be allowed to enter the security-controlled area with a pass.
The recent wiretapping scandal has also kept the FA's security team on high alert. Previously, Southampton FC was disqualified from the Championship play-off final for sending people to secretly film Middlesbrough's training sessions.
Combining past incidents of team espionage in major events, the security alert level has been fully raised in key areas across the three World Cup host regions: the US, Canada, and Mexico.
Currently, approximately 20 England players will fly directly from Birmingham to West Palm Beach, Florida, on a private charter plane for pre-tournament training.
The team will strictly adhere to the schedule set by the FA medical team to adjust their condition, wearing compression training suits to promote blood circulation and adapt to the local time difference.
It is reported that some players have already departed. Several Arsenal players, having just played in the Champions League final in Budapest with their team, will delay their departure to rest and adjust first.
In addition to the strict security at the Kansas base, England's first World Cup group stage match on June 17 will also have top-tier security. It is reported that hundreds of additional police officers will be deployed to the stadium, and a no-fly zone will be designated over the stadium airspace.
Police in the 11 US cities hosting this World Cup are all equipped with anti-drone guns, capable of jamming signals or taking over the equipment of maliciously launched drones.
At the same time, US police will deploy hexacopter drones to intercept illegal aircraft by netting them and taking them to a safe area for disposal.
The Mexican and Canadian militaries will also deploy security forces, and both countries will use handheld anti-drone jamming guns and fixed electronic warfare systems to fully fortify the event's security defenses.
