Chelsea news: Former Spain boss Luis Enrique one of many many manager on Todd Boehly's proposed short list of options to replace Graham Potter
However, that is where the club are, and now Boehly faces arguably his most important months at Chelsea, despite overseeing two transfer windows. Despite recent defeats, football.london understands, that Potter has support for now, but as the head coach himself has admitted, that support will not last forever.
"There is always that question, absolutely, and you can’t stop the questions," Potter admitted after the Tottenham defeat when asked about the possibility of the owners stance changing. "While results are what they are, I accept it. It’s part of the job. My job isn’t to worry about that too much.
"I understand the question and where it comes from, but I have to try to focus on keeping on helping the team and supporting the players. I really like these players, they’re good lads. They want to do better and want to win. But at the moment we’re suffering and that is my responsibility."
One of the main candidates tipped to replace Potter is former Spain boss Luis Enrique. While other options such as Mauricio Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane are waiting for a specific job, that same fact does not seem to apply to Enrique.
Speaking to CaughtOffside Fabrizio Romano said: "Luis Enrique is a top coach and it’s normal to see his name around for many jobs. At the moment, he’s not in conversation with any club yet.
"What I can say for sure is that Luis Enrique wants to return as soon as possible after the World Cup and he’d love to be back at work in the next months, he doesn’t want to stop."
Following the World Cup, Enrique and Spain came to the mutual decision that he would no longer continue as the national team head coach. His stance on wanting to return to management could certainly be taken advantage of by Chelsea should Boehly relieve Potter of his duties, however it may not be that simple.
"I’d like to manage in England at some point," Luis Enrique told FourFourTwo in 2013. "My wife wouldn’t like the weather, she’s from Barcelona and likes the sun. It would depend on the team and the football they played."
Of course this comment was over a decade ago and his wife Elena Cullell, could have since changed her stance on moving to the United Kingdom.
