Luis Enrique guided Paris Saint-Germain to a first ever Champions League triumph and couldn't resist getting one last dig in after he was asked about Kylian Mbappe

Luis Enrique toasted the finest night in Paris Saint-Germain's history as the French giants were rewarded for ditching their 'galacticos' approach with a maiden Champions League title.

But the Spaniard, 55, couldn't escape into the Munich night without being asked about Kylian Mbappe. The French striker was PSG's poster boy, the jewel in their expensively-assembled crown, before running his contract down to join Real Madrid.

With the likes of Mbappe, Neymar and Lionel Messi in tow, PSG still failed to get over the line in the Champions League.

But in a year where Mbappe and Real Madrid drew a blank in Europe, PSG ended their duck in spectacular fashion - and Enrique implied that the forward only has himself to blame for missing out on the celebrations.

“We would have loved to have him, but his decision was different,” Enrique said when he was quizzed about the Real Madrid star after watching his PSG team dismantle Inter Milan to claim a historic 5-0 win in Germany.

“We've shown that we have stars at the service of the team, and not the other way around.”

For his part, Mbappe, who cited a desire to win the games biggest prizes when joining Real Madrid on a free transfer last summer, immediately took to social media to congratulate his old club.

The 26-year-old wrote on his Instagram story: “The big day has finally arrived. Victory and in the club’s style. Congratulations PSG.”

Former Wolves midfielder Vitinha also appeared to aim a dig at the club's star-studded teams of old post-match by underlining how good PSG's current crop are. He told TNT Sports: “It means everything, it means everything.

“The fans are the main reason that we wanted to win this trophy, but we wanted to win it for a lot of reasons. It's our dream, it’s everyone's dream, it's my dream, and I'm glad we made it. It's incredible.

“It says a lot [about these players] – it's a very good team. The result is not by magic. We are a very good team, and now we're going to celebrate.”
