Enzo Fernandez undermines Rosenior again with brutal Chelsea manager comments

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has opened up about Enzo Maresca's departure from Stamford Bridge

Enzo Fernandez has admitted that Enzo Maresca's exit from Chelsea caused pain amongst the squad, whilst implying that several players struggle to comprehend how decisions are reached in football. The Italian manager left Stamford Bridge at the beginning of the year and was subsequently succeeded by Liam Rosenior.

Maresca's final match as Chelsea boss was a 2-2 Premier League stalemate with Bournemouth, which also proved to be the club's closing fixture of 2025. Maresca departed Chelsea amidst ongoing rumours connecting him with the Manchester City position, with reports indicating he was being viewed as a possible replacement for Pep Guardiola.

Speaking following Chelsea's crushing 8-2 Champions League loss to Paris Saint‐Germain, Fernandez discussed Maresca's departure for the first time in a conversation with Argentinian media. Former Argentinian player, Juan Pablo Sorin questioned him about what transpired before, during and after the manager's exit.

"I don't understand it [what happened]," he said. "Sometimes as a player, there's things we don't understand and the way they try to manage things. I don't have an answer for you because I don't know.

"Obviously, it was a departure that hurt a lot because we had a lot of identity, he gave us order but it's the way that football is, sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad.

"But we always had a clear identity when it came to training, playing and obviously his departure hurt us especially in the middle of the season - it cuts everything short."

Fernandez's comments have left fans pondering if there was a hidden message within them.

One supporter remarked: "Seems like jabs at Rosenior, Chelsea are so finished man," before another chimed in: "Why would he even say this as a vice captain under a new manager."

A third added: "This is surely one small step closer to his exit. really really sad to see," and a fourth queried: "How is it worse ? If by now you don't know what he said is truth then you know nothing and you're not a Chelsea fan."

On the same evening, the Argentine skipper also dropped a shocker about his future, cryptically stating 'we'll see' what unfolds after the World Cup.

Speaking to ESPN Argentina, Fernandez said: "I don't know, there are eight games left and the FA Cup. There's the World Cup and then we'll see."
