Chelsea were beaten 2-0 by Newcastle United on Sunday to see their Champions League hopes dealt a blow after Nicolas Jackson's first half red card at St James' Park
Enzo Maresca will have crunch talks with Nicolas Jackson after the striker saw red in the first half of Chelsea's defeat at St James’ Park. After a VAR intervention, Jackson was sent off for flooring Sven Botman with his arm and elbow when Maresca’s men were trailing to an early Sandro Tonali goal.
A Bruno Guimaraes strike doubled the Newcastle lead late in a second half dominated by Chelsea, leaving Maresca to rue Jackson’s moment of madness. The Chelsea manager said: “In the next day, we are going to speak to Nico.
"He is our number nine and his season is now finished. You have to avoid this kind of thing. In the future, hopefully he can learn from this.”
Jackson was originally shown a yellow card by referee John Brooks and Maresca refused to be drawn on whether or not he thought the upgrade was justified. He would only say: “If the ref decides it is a red card, we have to accept that. But for other fouls, there was the noise of the stadium (as a factor).”
It now looks as though Chelsea will have to win both of their remaining Premier League fixtures to qualify for the Champions League but Newcastle should be able to make it with just one win from their two games. And a relieved Eddie Howe hailed Nick Pope as one of the heroes of a hard-fought win, the Newcastle keeper making a couple of superb stops as Chelsea controlled the second half.
The Newcastle manager, who insisted that Jackson’s red card WAS deserved, said: “Nick made two world-class saves. We were indebted to him. They were magnificent saves - you cannot overlook that.
“That was a massive win for us. We knew the importance of the game and we got over the line. It is still very tight and we need to keep our focus for two more games.”
And Maresca knows exactly what his Chelsea have to do, saying: “We have to find a solution and we have to win both our games.”
Next up for Chelsea is a match against Manchester United. The game has been brought forward to Friday night, and Maresca will need to decide who to start in attack in place of the suspended Jackson.
After that, Maresca's team will conclude their campaign with a trip to Nottingham Forest. Nuno's Forest also remain in contention for Champions League qualification, but missed out on a chance to move into the top five when they were held at home by relegated Leicester on Sunday.

I think he needs to play with two 6 Moi and Lavia, not playing our best midfielder as a RB, Neto should play on the LW and palmer play on the RW and Enzo has 10, George has false 9 we can win with this line-up

The INCOMPETENT COACH ENZO MARRESCA who cannot select his first XI and keeps rotating his players and experimenting formations throughout the whole season! In the final two matches, Enzo Marresca MUST PLAY TARIK GEORGE, supported by Cole Palmer and Madueke in attack; Neto and Sancho on the flanks , and all the competent first team players, led by Capt. Reece James and the rest of squad in midfield and defence; Goalkeeper Sanchez MUST be on the bench during the final two game against MAN U and Forest, and Chelsea will triumph and qualify for Eufa Champions League football next season.

Coach Enzo MARRESCA, Nicholas Jackson , Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, and American owners Todd Boyly and partners. We have always maintained that Coach Enzo Marresca is just a MEDIOCRE Coach incapable of coaching a highly successful Chelsea Club prior to Chelsea's American ownership. Coach Enzo MARRESCA MUST BE SACKED because he cannot handle Eufa Champions League football if Chelsea qualifies next season. Nicholas Jackson is just a MEDIOCRE player, let alone Chelsea's STRIKER. He MUST BE SOLD to create vacancy for a top striker like Victor Osimen. Similarly, INCOMPETENT Goalkeeper Sanchez MUST ALSO BE SOLD to create vacancy for a top class Goalkeeper like Inter Milan Goalkeeper. Owner Todd Boely MUST STOP his STURBBON REFUSAL TO SACK the PLAYERS mentioned in this post and Coach Marresca. Otherwise, the passionate ,fanatic and highly expectant Chelsea FANS MUST DEMAND TODD BOELY AND HIS AMERICAN PARTNERS SELL CHELSEA TO NEW OWNERS TO SAVE THE CLUD FROM FURTHER DECAY!!!

This coach always plays players out of position, this is what is killing our game, Jason or what ever he is called is another problem of Chelsea apart from the owners, this is not the Chelsea I know, they have killed this club

You beat the champions with a line up then you throw players out of position the next game. He is not a world class coach. He gambles.
but he started with the same formation he played against Liverpool it's Jackson fault not maresca

Jackson’s red card may be good for Chelsea after all. He will miss the next match. Good riddance. Neto or Dewsbury can play False 9 while Sancho and Madueke play on the flanks.

When people who do not understand the role of tactical play, they will say, why are you blaming the coach. Every game set up is 90℅ key to whether you will win or not. The other 10℅ is just eventuality. Maresca, play 90℅ role on why lost our game. His tactically defient, check the second half, was the game not balance?

haba! ..some people would just comment without reasoning. was it the coach that caused the red card nor the defensive error in the first few minutes? and do you expect the competing top five clubs to remain slack most especially at Home games, whereby they are well in-form for long.? No menh! We simply lost the match and we moved on to the next! What if it was Liverpool that won us. would you guys have commented like this. or did you guys comment such against Liverpool? Let's accept we lose and some of our players fumble. I mean performed under expectations. Nicolas, Palmer, and some were not given any chance at all because they have studied their ways. Enzo, Calcedo
