Christian Eriksen has criticised Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim for comments labelling last season’s side as “the worst” in the club’s history.
Amorim made the statement in January, following United’s 3-1 home defeat to Brighton, with his side going on to finish 15th in the Premier League, marking their worst league position since 1989-90, with just 42 points, their lowest points tally since they were last relegated in 1973-74.
United were also beaten in the Europa League final by Tottenham.
Eriksen, who played under Amorim for the final six months of his United career, believes the coach's comments negatively impacted the squad for the matches that followed.
"That didn't help," Eriksen told The Sunday Times.
"Yeah, that didn't help at all. I don't think that helped the players at all.
"Some stuff you can say inside and it's not too clever to say outside, to put extra pressure and put an extra label on the players who were already trying to do their best.
"Then if he's right or wrong, whatever, but I think for us it was a bit of like, 'Oh, here we go again. Another headline.'"
Eriksen joined United on a free transfer in the summer of 2022, winning the EFL Cup and FA Cup over three seasons at Old Trafford.
The Dane scored eight goals in 107 appearances before going on to join Wolfsburg when his contract expired at the end of last season.
United's fortunes have improved this term, with Amorim's team sitting sixth, just three points behind fourth-place Liverpool.

This is exactly what Paul Scholes said.. players always whining about coaches criticizing them, instead of stepping up to prove the coach wrong, they all sit down and sulk around. I’ve never seen a set of players who sulk and cry around like MAN UTD players…. They don’t play well, and they don’t want to be corrected or criticized at all….
